Alumni Spotlight: Grant Hauschild

Brother Grant Hauschild graduated in 2011 with a degree in political science. Currently, Grant is the Executive Director at the Essentia Health Foundation and a Hermantown City Councilor. Prior to his current positions, Grant has served as an Economic Development Specialist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and as a Legislative Aide and Political Director for former U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

During his time at UND brother Hauschild was not only dedicated to his studies, but he was heavily involved on campus too. During Grant’s time at DU he has served as pledge educator and public relations. Outside of DU, Grant served as the Student Body Vice President.

One of Grant’s favorite memories from his time in undergrad is the time he went to make a frozen pizza in the kitchen oven and wasn’t aware he had turned on the stovetop which resulted in a fire in the kitchen and almost burned down the house. Another memory of his is the formal where he met his wife.

After graduating he moved to Washington D.C. on a scholarship opportunity and worked his way up through the Department of Agriculture to an appointed position in the Obama-Biden administration at the Department of Agriculture. Grant then went to work for former Senator Heidi Heitkamp while he attended graduate school at George Washington University for Public Policy Analysis.

Grant and his wife made the decision to move back to Grand Forks where he worked for the UND Foundation, ran for the state legislature, and she attended graduate school. A couple of years passed before they moved to Duluth where Grant worked for Senator Heitkamp again before taking his current role at the Essentia Health Foundation.
